Hic jacet Johannes Pates, Magister artis, ingeniique largitor, nec minus Medicinae quam Theologiae studiosus, qui, annis quadraginta circiter ingenue peractis, suum naturae debitum, heu! quam citissime! persolvit, Jan. 11th, Anno Do. 1646.

[Translation: Here lies John Pates, Master of Arts and man of many talents, as learned in medicine as in theology, who after some forty years nobly spent paid his debt to nature – Alas! So Soon. Jan 11th A.D. 1646]
