Former County Surveyor dies

CAPTAIN JAMES WALLACE CHARLTON, a former county surveyor of Fermanagh, died suddenly at his residence, Orchard Terrace, Enniskillen, to-day.

Educated at Enniskillen Model School and Portora Royal School, Captain Charlton in the 1914-18 War served in the 11th (Fermanagh) Bn., Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was wounded at the Battle of Messines, and was awarded the Military Cross and Bar, and the Croix de Guerre.

After the war he graduated in engineering at Queen’s University, and later joined the staff of Fermanagh County Council as assistant surveyor. He was appointed county surveyor in 1940 and retired last year.

Capt. Charlton, who was secretary of the Select Vestry of Enniskillen Parish, and one of the founder members of the local British Legion branch, is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
